Help Shape the Future of Kingsgrove’s New Community Hub 

Kingsgrove Community Hub is seeking an enthusiastic, organised and community-minded Hub Manager to help establish and lead our new community facility in Wantage. 

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in creating a welcoming, vibrant, and sustainable community space that will serve Kingsgrove residents and the wider Wantage area for years to come. 

Working closely with the Board of Trustees, volunteers, local organisations, and community partners, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Hub while helping to grow its reach, impact, and long-term sustainability.

About the Role 

As Hub Manager, you will: 

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the Hub 

• Support community groups, hirers, and visitors 

• Develop strong relationships with local stakeholders and partners 

• Coordinate volunteers and support future staff as the Hub grows 

• Promote the Hub and maximise community engagement 

• Support fundraising and grant application activity 

• Ensure high standards of health, safety, and operational compliance 

• Help shape the long-term development and success of the Hub 

Key Information 

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (pro rata) plus pension scheme. 

Hours: Initially 15 hours per week, increasing to approximately 20-25 hours per week as the Hub develops and operational requirements increase. 

Location: Kingsgrove Community Hub, Wantage 

Working Pattern: Working hours can be arranged flexibly to meet operational needs, however applicants should expect their hours to be spread across multiple days during the week. Evening and occasional weekend working will be required to support community activities, events, and meetings. 

 
About You

We are looking for someone who: 

• Has experience in facilities management, community development, venue management, hospitality, charity operations, or a related field 

• Is a confident communicator and relationship builder 

• Has strong organisational and problem-solving skills 

• Can work independently and manage competing priorities 

• Is passionate about community engagement and creating positive social impact 

• Is comfortable working with volunteers, community groups, and partner organisations

Over the following years, having gained approval to run the centre, Wantage Community Church worked with the Developers (St. Modwen), the landowners, and a construction company to design and deliver The Hub: a community centre that responded to 21^st century life and looked to the future, understanding the need to bring together working space, community space, and a café.

A new charity (Kingsgrove Community Hub) was created to run The Hub, so that it would be able to serve everyone as well as possible. Planning application has been approved and we expect the legal agreements to be finalised so that construction can begin late Spring 2026.

Why is it called The Hub?

Our vision is for a go-to hosted space which the whole community can call home, rather than just a functional space.

Why are Wantage Community Church involved?

This was a result of public consultation of October 2017 in which Wantage Community Church applied via the public application process to run the eventual facility for the good of the community.

Why is a Church running a Community Hub?

They aren’t. To make this clear, Wantage Community Church has set up set up a new non faith-based Charity to operate and maintain the Hub (“Kingsgrove Community Hub”, or KCH).

What if the Church were not involved?

A much lesser community facility would be built: £1.7m of the funding has been raised by the church.

So, is it a church or a community centre?

The Hub is a community facility for Kingsgrove in which Wantage Community Church will be meet.

Facilities at the Hub

What will be in the Hub?

350+ seat main hall with a suite of other halls and rooms to hire; Enterprise area with hot-desking; community café; Community outreach and surgeries… and much more

What is an Enterprise Zone?

A dedicated space where you can hot-desk or hire a workspace with high-speed internet plus space for on-line and in-person meetings. We are also identifying community partners with whom we could help and mentor new businesses as well as provide a menu of training opportunities.

What will the cafe sell?

The café is at the centre of Hub life and will serve great coffee as well as range of other drinks and snacks in a welcoming space with great internet access.

Who can use the Hub?

It is a community Hub and so is open to hire to all groups.

Can I hire it for parties?!

Certainly. There are a variety of rooms and other space available to hire with priority rates for local users.

When will it be open? 

Our goal is summer 2027.

The Hub was created to serve individuals and communities in Kingsgrove, Wantage, and the surrounding area. The initial vision came from Wantage Community Church, who had the idea of combining church investment (time and money) with the community requirements in a development (land and money) to create something that was far better than either could achieve on it’s own. The goal is to create and welcome community, and to make the space available as easily as possible for volunteer, charitable, and community focussed organisations.
